Battery, power
The camera does not work even if the power is turned on.
The battery is not inserted correctly (→18), or needs recharging.
The monitor switches itself off even if the power is turned on.
The camera switches itself off as soon as the power is turned on.
[Opt. Viewfinder] is set to [ON].
→ Press the [DISP] button to switch to the monitor display.
An external viewfinder display is selected.
→ Press the [EVF/LCD] button of the external electronic viewfinder to switch to the monitor display.
[Economy] ([Sleep Mode] or [Auto LCD Off]) is activated. (→36)
→ Press the shutter button halfway to release.
The battery needs recharging.
The camera switches itself off automatically.
If you connect to a TV compatible with HDTV Link (HDMI) with the HDMI mini cable (available as
accessory (→8)) and turn off the power on the TV with its remote control, the power on the camera
also turns off.
→ If you are not using HDTV Link (HDMI), set [HDTV Link] to [OFF]. (→40)
Recording
I cannot record pictures.
The built-in memory/the card is full.
→ Free space by deleting unwanted pictures (→163).
The recorded pictures look white.
The lens is dirty (fingerprints, etc.).
→ Turn on power to extend the lens barrel, and clean the lens surface with a soft, dry cloth.
The lens is foggy (→6).
The recorded pictures are too bright/too dark.

[Min. Shtr Speed] is set to fast speed. Check the setting (→141).
Several pictures are taken when I press the shutter button just once.

The focusing is not correct.
The camera is not set to mode appropriate for the distance to the subject. (The focusing range
varies according to recording mode.)

This may be caused by camera shake or subject movement. (→142)
The recorded pictures are blurred. The Optical Image Stabilizer ineffective.
The shutter speed is slower in dark locations and the Optical Image Stabilizer is less effective.
→ Hold the camera firmly with both hands, keeping the arms close to the body.
Use a tripod and the self-timer (→116) when using slower shutter speeds with [Min. Shtr Speed].
