Using the zoom lens
- 95 -
[Step Zoom]
You can set the zoom operation to allow easy visualization of the angle of view (picture
angle) for the focal length of a regular fixed focal length lens (as with a 35mm film
camera). When using the Step Zoom, you can operate the zoom ratio as easily as
changing the camera lens.
Preparation:
Set [Step Zoom] for the [Rec] menu to [ON].
• For the setting procedures of the menu. (→25)
Select the focal length
Every time you operate the zoom lever,
zooming will stop at the indicated focal
lengths.
To widen the angle
of view, use shorter
focal lengths
(hence wideangle,
also makes
subjects appear
further away)
To make subjects
appear closer use
longer focal lengths
(telephoto, also
narrows
the angle of view)
Current zoom position
(The indicated focal lengths are not the actual ones,
but rather the equivalent ones for the 35mm format)
[Step Zoom] stop positions
24mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 70mm, and 90mm

135mm, 200mm, 300mm, 400mm, 500mm, 600mm, the focal length at max. Tele,
and so on.
The focal length values are only approximations.
